The Vision of a River Park
The guiding vision for the River Park is presented in the San Diego River Park Conceptual Plan which was developed through a series of community meetings by The San Diego River Park Foundation. The plan was completed during the summer of 2002

With the completion of the Plan, the City of San Diego, the City of Santee and the County of San Diego were asked to take necessary steps to formalize the Conceptual Plan into their appropriate land use documents.
The City of San Diego began a multi-year effort to adopt a River Park Master Plan for their 17 miles of the San Diego River. This planning efforts continues to this day.

December 2012 - The San Diego River Coalition unanimously recommends adoption of the City's Plan and encourages them when possible to expand the River's habitat.
Addtionally other groups have endorsed the plan and we encourage your group to show support for this major planning effort which will result in a better future for the San Diego River, create trails and parks, and generate a new relationship to our historic River.

PROJECT NEWS
Trails Receive Funding to Advance - San Diego River Trail connection from the City of Santee to Mission Trails Regional Park and the connection from Mission Valley Library to Qualcomm Stadium are to receive funding for feasibility studies - an essential step for construction.
Santee - Walker Preserve Dedicated - an important link in the River Park system to connect to Lakeside is now completed.

A report by The San Diego Foundation and The City Project documented park deficient communities in San Diego County, several areas along the San Diego River are well below standards.
