Friends of Santee's River Park

The Friends of Santee's River Park is a community group compromised of individuals united in their goal of preserving and enhancing the San Diego River and surrounding park areas within the City of Santee. The Friends of Santee's River Park encourage Santee residents to take ownership in their stretch of the San Diego River in an effort to maintain the fragile ecosystem and maintain the greenbelt and beautiful parks that surround it. The Friends were founded under the umbrella of the San Diego River Park Foundation, which is actively involved in supporting and developing this group and coordinating activities. We are pleased to have a new Chapter of the River Park Foundation!

Make a Difference!

There are many ways to join with the Friends of Santee's River Park and really make a difference:

Cleanups

The Friends regularly join up with the San Diego River Park Foundation's Clean and Green Team for community cleanups along the River. Cleanups take place throughout the year including San Diego River Days, Santree Day and National Public Lands Day.

Outreach and Education

The Friends play an important role in the San Diego River Park Foundation's River Ambassadors program. River Ambassadors help to spread the word about the San Diego River, educating people all about our wonderful River and Parks have to offer and what citizens can do to make a difference!

RiverWatch

The Friends are invited to join with the San Diego River Park Foundation's RiverWatch Team as they keep tabs on the water quality of the San Diego River as it runs through Santee. The team meets once a month and records water quality data in addition to identifying areas of trash and encampments that need to be cleared away.

Guided Walks

The Friends host quarterly guided walks of the San Diego River. Walk activities include bird watching, butterfly hunting and the identification of both native and invasive plants.

Walks will take place on the last Sunday of the month in January, April, July and October.

Celebration

Most importantly the Friends of Santee's River Park come together to celebrate the beautiful River. Join us throughout the year as we make the most of this wonderful natural resource!

November 8th 9am-Noon Tamarisk Bash

Help us to remove the very invasive and detrimental Tamarisk plants from the riverbed. Tamarisk uses far more water than native plants while offering very little benefit to wildlife. It also raises the salinity of surrounding soil making it more difficult for beneficial native plants to grow. For more Info call Richard at 619.297.7380 or Email him.
