Join in an effort to transform an old 1.5 mile fire road

Join our featured artist, renowned Plein Air artist Molly Lipsher and participating local plein air painters as they create works of art on the banks of the San Diego River. Watch step by step as these talented artists capture and preserve the scenery at Mission Trails Regional Park at the Mission Dam.

9AM - Noon River Mouth Habitat Restoration and Tour
Visit the area where the San Diego River meets the Pacific Ocean and learn about the importance of our coastal wetlands. Tour followed by a service project to help protect the health of this rare and important part of the River Park. Meet on the grassy area at the entrance to the parking area. Great event for families!

9AM Viejas Summit Hike
Join us for a moderately strenuous 3.25-mile roundtrip hike to the summit of Viejas Mountain. Learn about land conservation efforts to protect this scenic area. Bring water for the hike. Learn about the threats to our native ecology from invasive plants and help us remove the non-native invasive salt cedar from along the San Diego River at Mast Park in Santee. Bird watchers and nature lovers, come explore this incredible wetland! Don’t forget your binoculars. This is a beautiful coastal estuary which is a fantastic birding location.

1PM - 4PM Afternoon at a Wildlife Preserve
Explore the San Diego River Park Foundation’s 516-acre Eagle Peak Preserve wildlife preserve. Bring your camera and binoculars for the wildflowers and breathtaking views. See grinding rocks, historic structures and more. Photo contest included. Submit digital photos before 6/1/10 by email to info@sandiegoriver.org
Guided 2 mile walk by Docent Rob at 3:00PM. The Preserve is located near the end of Eagle Peak Road. Requires travelling on well maintained dirt roadway for approx. 7 miles. The Preserve is also near the trailhead to Cedar Creek Falls, a popular 4.4 mile hike to a 80 ft waterfall. Note: this is a moderate hike with 800 ft. elevation change.
